New rumors suggest that Canon will release its previously teased superzoom camera with a large sensor in time for CES 2015 next month.
The translated description of the new camera from Canon Netherlands reads as follows:
Canon is committed to be in a compact housing to offer. Notch picture quality, and The new model in the Expert Compact range combines a large sensor and powerful zoom for superb pictures from afar.
The Canon G7 X, released earlier this year, features a Sony 1″ sensor, while the G1 X Mark II features the odd-sized 1.85x crop sensor, measuring 18.7 x 12.5 mm. Presumably, a superzoom model would sport a 1″ sensor and it would seem logical that it featured the same sensor as the G7 X. However, Canon seemed to get a bit hostile when pressed about using a Sony sensor in recent interviews.
It will be interesting to see how the specs shake out on the new camera with Canon already late to the party on the large-sensor, point-and-shoot camera market.
Stay tuned.
