Several companies have released affordable super-telephoto zoom lenses recently (like the Nikon 200-500mm, Sigma 150-600mm & Tamron 150-600mm) and it looks like Canon may be adding to the mix. Canon Rumors reports that it has info from a reliable source of a Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens in development.
The lens may not be an “L” lens and, thus, wouldn’t necessarily compete with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens. Accordingly, the lens is also expected to be offered at a lower price point than the 100-400mm.
No additional rumors on pricing or release dates; however, the 200-600mm lens is expected sometime this year.

A 200-600 at a lower price point?
That’s not a rumor…that’s just wishful thinking…

Such lens should be in stores for 2 years already but Canon was busy developing another 24-70 zoom.

Perhaps Canon failed with the EF 200-600mm lens project. We’ve been hearing about it for the last 2 years yet, so sign. Meantime, many enthusiast wildlife photographers have opted tor the awesome Nikon dual 500 system i.e., Nikon D500 body + Nikkor 200-500mm lens. 1.4x extender can also be used with it making it a 1050mm lens.
Almost every time Nikon is the pioneer in introducing new gears and Canon follows. This time the follower is out of gas!

This is October 2018. No sign of Canon EF 200-600mm super telephoto zoom.
Now, it’s clear that it’s an abandoned project. They simply failed to make it.
