Canon Cinema EOS C200 Images Leak Out

May 29, 2017 By Eric Reagan

Product photos of the upcoming Canon Cinema EOS C200 have leaked out ahead of its official announcement. The model name suggests this will slot in between the entry-level C100 Mark II and the more advanced C300 Mark II, the latter of which now offers 4K capture in this latest generation.

It appears that the C200 will also feature 4K capture and will be much closer in overall physical size to the C300 Mark II. Notably, it features a pair of SD card slots for on-board media capture instead of the dual CFast card slots found on the C300 Mark II. (Update: Mark pointed out in the comments that there is a single CFast slot on the left side near the back.) It does, however, appear to have a pair of native XLR inputs on the camera body itself.

There doesn’t appear to be time code or gen lock for the C200 as found on the C300 Mark II. The C200 looks to be most closely situated to compete with the Sony FS5 and FS7 product lines in the cinema camera market. That will likely also pit it squarely against Panasonic’s upcoming cinema camera due out in early June, which will likely also feature a Canon EF mount for a greater lens selection.

For reference, the C100 Mark II currently runs $4000 after rebates and the C300 Mark II is at $12,000. So, that puts the street price of $8,000 or so on the C200 after the first round of rebates. If I were betting, I’d put the MSRP at launch at $9,999.95.

The $8,000-$10,000 cinema camera market looks like it is about to be very crowded with a ton of great options.

For further comparison, consider the C100 Mark II and C300 Mark II bodies below.

It *does* have a CFast card slot, you can see it on the left side, towards the back.
