B&H Photo has sent out an email regarding their holiday deals on digital cameras (some are better than others). However, the big deal about this for those last minute shoppers of you is that you can get free overnight shipping on all Canon cameras and certain video cameras. Here’s the link to B&H’s Holiday Deals page.
Just in time for Christmas, here’s 21 deals (and a couple of bonus suggestions) at a variety of retailers that I’ve picked out for you last minute shoppers out there.
Some of the items I’ve picked are real deals as refurbished or used items, so there may be only a few or just one of them. I can’t promise any of these links will last very long. So, get while the getting is good.
1. Nikon D700 for $2160! One of the best ones comes from Ritz Camera, who’s giving 10% off of all in stock orders when you use PayPal Checkout! Plus free shipping on orders over $100 and no tax collected. While 10% off may not sound like much, consider this . . . . The Nikon D700 is $2399 at Ritz and with the 10% discount, it becomes $2160 – that’s $2160 out the door; no tax, no shipping, real dollars. Talk about a deal! Now, go get creative. Here’s the link: Ritz 10% Off.
2. Canon 40D (body) for $799.95 at B&H Photo
There are a lot of great deals floating around in the digital camera world for Black Friday. Ritz Camera, who offers free shipping and no sales tax as a standard, has some of the better deals that I’ve seen.
Ritz – SanDisk 4GB Extreme III CF Memory Card BUY-3 THEN FREE REBATE OFFER – FREE (After Rebate)
Ritz – SanDisk 4GB Extreme III SD Memory Card BUY-3 THEN FREE REBATE OFFER – FREE (After Rebate)
Amazon Black Friday Deals – Includes deals like:
- Buy a Pentax K20D, get a 12MP Pentax Optio A40 free
- Nikon D200 for $799
- Free 8GB memory card with certain Fuji cameras
- Get 2 Free accessories with the Flip Mino HD (as an aside, I just bought one for myself and love it so far . . . hate that I missed the free accessories though)
- Buy a lens, get a free Tiffen filter
Adorama Black Friday Deals Page – Actually, it’s pretty lame so far aside from a few good deals on some memory cards and point and shoot cameras. Hopefully, they will add some more.
Calumet Black Friday & Cyber Monday Page 11.26.08 thru 12.01.08 – Nothing really stands out here as a killer Black Friday deal. However, if you need some seamless paper, a muslin background or two, or are looking at their light control panel systems, then you’ll find these in the 15% – 25% off range. Other than that, its pretty lame as far as the “door buster” type deals are concerned.
Dell Home Black Friday Deals Page – Some solid computer deals with laptops and desktops as low as $299, although don’t expect to push Photoshop too hard with the specs on these. However, some decent-spec’d desktops are in the $650 range. Not bad at all. The below SD1100 is the only digital camera deal at the moment, but check back with Dell throughout the weekend and into Cyber Monday for additional deals.
Finally, if you are looking for shopping advice on for you photographically-inclined friend or family member, don’t miss Photography Bay’s Holiday Shopping Guide, which is packed full of the top recommendations in a variety of digital camera and accessory categories.
Below are a couple of camera deals going on at B&H Photo right now. B&H is a trustworthy online retailer who won’t try to scam you or offer you a bait and switch deal like some other “too good to be true” retailers out there. [Read more…]

The Canon 5D Mark II has not even begun to ship yet and we’re already seeing the original Canon 5D take a hit in price. Just last week, I noticed the Canon 5D + EF 24-105mm L lens was around $2700 for the kit at Amazon. Now, the original 5D combo is available for $2590. Also, the Canon 5D body is now selling for under $2k.
So, if you can’t swing a 5D Mark II, you might consider the original 5D at a substantial discount. Personally, I’m drooling over the kit’s price point right now.
Although I haven’t seen an official statement from Nikon on the price drop, many trusted retailers have already implemented it. Amazon’s actually got it priced much less for the time being.
Here’s a rundown of the sale prices at trusted online retailers (as of the time of this posting):
Amazon – $2519.97
Adorama – $2679.00
B&H Photo – $2699.95
Ritz Camera – $2699.95
Today, Canon has launched its Fall 2008 rebate program, which applies to a variety of lenses and three flashes. Purchases eligible for this rebate must be made between October 19, 2008 and January 17, 2009.
As has been the case for the past couple of years, all of these savings are instant rebates, which means they are applied to your purchase at the time it is made – no worries about mailing in UPCs and receipts.
The full set of lenses and flashes are listed below along with the rebate amount. Links take to the Amazon pages for each particular item. I also recommend Adorama and B&H Photo as trustworthy and reliable online retailers.
