B&H has a solid deal on the GoPro HERO4 Black for $299 that includes the GoPro LCD Touch BacPac and the GoPro Dual Battery Charger with a spare battery. I’ve been a bigger fan of the HERO4 because of the built-in touchscreen but the inclusion of this LCD BacPac, along with the external charger and battery, makes this a very tempting deal. DJI has grown to be the 800 lb gorilla in the drone industry. Other challengers like Yuneec, 3DR and GoPro appear to be in a race for a distant second-place spot.
We thought GoPro might be able to make a big splash and a bit of a comeback with its Karma drone last year. Of course, we all know how that went.
GoPro’s Karma looked great with a collapsible form factor. Then, DJI dropped the Mavic Pro on us a few days later that made the Karma look much less attractive. It was smaller, lighter and cheaper, as well as having an arguably better spec list. And then, to top it off, GoPro issued a recall for the Karma drones that it had sold because they kept falling out of the sky – thanks to a faulty battery latch. [Read more…]

GoPro’s Karma drone raised some eyebrows after it was announced last month. Then, DJI came along a few days later and dropped the Mavic drone on everyone and raised even more eyebrows. Now, we have a pair of impressive, compact drones from which to choose.

This bird’s nest timelapse video with a GoPro did not turn out as expected. Tan Nguyen found the nest in his front yard and set up his GoPro camera in the tree to capture the action. He got much more than he bargained for and now his nature video has amassed over 5 million views in less than a week.
GoPro strapped a few of its HERO4 cameras to a 20-foot SL-10 rocket and sent them to the edge of space. The stunning video shows the rocket traveling up to an altitude of 396,000ft and reaching a speed of Mach 5.5 (3800mph).
