Canon Upgrade Rebates – Summer 2009

July 25, 2009 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

Canon PowerShot Rebates

Canon has introduced their Semi-Annual Step-Up Program that is exclusively targeted toward Canon PowerShot owners.  The upgrade applies to Canon EOS DSLRs, specifically the Rebel XS, XSi and T1i, and the 50D and 5D Mark II.

PowerShot users stepping up to the Rebel XSi, XS or T1i are eligible for a $50 rebate.  For the PowerShot users looking at the 50D or 5D Mark II, you get a $100 rebate.

The devil is in the details though.  This is a mail-in rebate.  You must have registered your Canon PowerShot camera prior to July 20, 2009 and the purchase of the qualifying Canon EOS DSLR must occur between July 20, 2009 and October 5, 2009.  The rebate form must be postmarked no later than November 2, 2009 and received no later than November 16, 2009.

You can see all of the details and get the rebate form from Canon here.

Canon PowerShot G10 Review at PhotographyBLOG

October 27, 2008 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

PhotographyBLOG has published a review of the Canon PowerShot G10.

The G10 is undoubtedly the best ever Canon G-Series camera, and is a serious alternative to both an entry-level DSLR and other similar compacts (most notably the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 and the Nikon Coolpix P6000).

We’ll have more news and reviews as they come in at Photography Bay’s Canon G10 Reviews and Resources.

Canon Powershot E1

August 26, 2008 By Thursday Bram Leave a Comment

Canon’s Powershot E1 will go on sale at the beginning of September. The specs are respectable for a point-and-shoot: 10-megapixels, 4x optical zoom and optical image stabilization, macro
mode, ISO80-1600 (with 3200 scene mode) and a 2.5-inch TFT display.

The E1 runs on AA batteries and weighs in at 0.35 pounds. It will be priced at about $200. Oh, and it’s available in vanilla, powder blue and baby pink. After all, who doesn’t need a pink camera?

According to a press release from Canon, the color choices give the E1 a ‘youthful twist.’ The camera’s start-up screen and menus can even be coordinated with the camera’s body color.

Neocamera has posted a review of the Canon Powershot A590 IS.

The Canon Powershot A590 IS proved to be an excellent compact digital camera. With a well-rounded feature set including full-manual controls, image stabilization and unlimited continuous shooting, plus use of readily available AA batteries and chear SD (and SDHC) memory, the A590 is one of the best digital camera values currently available.

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review at DigiCam Review

July 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

DigiCam Review has posted a review of the Canon Powershot A590 IS.

Image quality is good – with excellent colour, with high levels of saturation, contrast and detail. Noise is higher than average compared to the competition, but is low up to ISO400 and detail is good.

Canon PowerShot A470 Review at Trusted Reviews

July 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Canon PowerShot A470.

Despite its very low cost the Canon PowerShot A470 acquits itself well. The build quality could be better, the control layout has a couple of major problems and it’s a lot larger and heavier than it really needs to be, but it makes up for these faults with extremely fast performance, excellent autofocus especially in low light, and even pretty good image quality, although it does have a few problems in this area. In general though the A470 is a genuine bargain and you won’t find much better for the price.

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review at PhotographyBLOG

June 23, 2008 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Canon Powershot A590 IS.

Also, for a model aimed at beginners, features are surprisingly comprehensive, its response times – save for that rather sluggish zoom – pretty good, and it’s nice to see true optical image stabilisation included as standard on a camera that costs what it does.

Canon SD890 IS Review at Steve’s Digicams

June 5, 2008 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

Steve’s Digicams has posted a review of the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS.  The new SD890 IS features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 2.5? LCD panel and a 5x optical zoom (a 35mm equivalent of 37-185mm). The SD890 IS also features a macro mode that allows close focusing at a distance of less than one inch.

The camera is still incredibly easy to operate, and the quality is what you would expect from a high-end consumer model. The 5x optical zoom and the 10-megapixel imaging sensor are the largest you will find so far on an ELPH.

Canon Powershot A580 Review at PhotographyBLOG

May 20, 2008 By Eric Reagan Leave a Comment

PhotographyBLOG has published a full review of the new 8 megapixel Canon Powershot A580. The A580 is the little brother to the Image Stabilized A590 IS. The A580 features a 4x optical zoom, the option of fully automatic or semi-automatic settings and 16 selectable shooting modes.

Image quality has also exceeded my expectations in terms of detail, colour accuracy, AWB consistency and centre sharpness. A well-exposed and properly focused ISO 80 shot will produce an excellent 30x40cm print, with ISO 800 still enjoyable at the common 10x15cm size.
