It looks like the excellent Fuji X100 is finally getting a proper successor. A recent article on the Fuji X-E1, written by Tony Bridge (who is sponsored by Fujifilm), mentioned that the replacement for the X100 is due out “early next year.” Given Fuji’s historically solid showing at CES, there’s a good chance that the next X-series camera with a leaf shutter will show up at CES 2013 in the first few days of January.
Moreover, the X200 seems to be getting Fuji’s X-Trans CMOS sensor, which is the same tech that powers the X-E1 and X-Pro1 cameras. The X100 got the nod for 2011 Camera of the Year here at Photography Bay, and I am quite excited to see how its successor will build on the solid fixed-lens camera.

Now Apple and Adobe just need to figure out RAW processing for the X-Trans. Looking forward to this replacement. I’ve loved my X100 so far.

It’s a bout time Nikon comes out with the Mx model, full frame same specs as the D600 which will beat all of the others. Hopefully with a build in Flash & interchangeable lens.
Price? cheaper than the Sony RX1

So… A larger sensor, faster f/1.4 lens, AA batteries and a tilt/fold LCD which can be hidden away while all your composition is done in the Viewfinder? That would be perfect.
A combination like that might even tilt me towards disposing of my OM-D kit…!

Sometimes the shere size of a professional camera is overwhelming during travel. On the one hand I want something like an x100, but I also ponder the compromise in the end result. The D800 with the 12-24 makes so much nicer photographs and isn’t this what it is all about? I love these little mirrorless cameras but can they really stand up to an FX format with expansive glass. Maybe I should just hire a porter. Does anyone else have this conflict?

John, if you lack the body mass or muscle strength for a “heavy” SLR, then maybe a girly camera that fits into your purse is a good idea for you. Hey, now that’s funny. Just kidding with you, but you must admit all this complaining about heavy cameras is just silly. I like my Nikon F5 because it is heavy and big enough for my hands.
