In addition to the big news with the Canon 5Ds and 5Ds R, the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens was also unveiled today. It is the widest rectilinear full frame DSLR lens ever with a 126°05′ angle of view.
The lens is comprised of 16 elements in 11 groups with a three group zoom system and rear focus. It has four aspherical elements to help minimize distortion, as well as a one Super UD element and one UD element.
It also uses Canon’s proprietary Sub-Wavelength Structure Coating (SWC) and Air Sphere Coating (ASC). As Canon explains, “The SWC coatings are particularly effective for combatting flare and ghosting caused by light rays entering the lens at a large angle of incidence, while the ASC coating helps mitigate the same problems for light rays entering the center of the lens. The new lens also employs Canon’s Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to enhance light transmission while at the same time optimizing color reproduction accuracy.”
The EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens is designed to take advantage of the resolution the new Canon 5Ds and 5Ds R cameras are capable of capturing. It should begin shipping later this month for $2999. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

At that price I’ll take two! I’d be crazy not to.

Oh… I really want one but can I wait for a sale? Going to be hard as this looks to be a great lens. I have been trying to decide on a wide angle lens for my 5D Mk3. Like already said…. pricey but I love landscape photography.
