Adobe Lightroom Gets Big “Profiles” Update

April 7, 2018 By Eric Reagan

The latest version of Lightroom adds a massive update to the Camera Profiles feature (Lightroom Classic and Adobe Camera Raw) – now simply called Profiles – and adds them into Lightroom CC (the “cloud” version of Lightroom).

Adobe moved the Profiles control from being buried in the Camera Calibration panel to the Basic panel. Adobe added six new basic adjustment Profiles (in addition to the existing Adobe Standard):

  1. Adobe Color
  2. Adobe Monochrome
  3. Adobe Landscape
  4. Adobe Natural
  5. Adobe Portrait
  6. Adobe Vivid

Additionally, there are over 40 new Creative Profiles, along with a new Profile Browser for organization.

The new Creative Profiles are LUTs (lookup tables), which are common among video editing workflows for taking flat footage to a preset for color, contrast and exposure. The Profiles then become the starting point for further editing. There’s a good breakdown of the new Profile system here.

I’d rather that Adobe leave the creativity to the users themselves that means stop all the preset nonsense.
Adobe please concentrate on a basic LR which is available without the Photoshop CC version. Do this for an attractive price for the truly amateur/hobby photographers.

Adobe is trying to trick us into thinking it is a product improvement. Presets can do as much damage as they do good. It’s all about selling,

Adobe appears to have forgotten all about the amature. Their CC and upgrades are all geared to the Pro and anyone obsessed with photography, certainly not for the weekender.
