Canon 5D Mark II Shipping from Online Retailers

December 2, 2008 By Eric Reagan

It looks like both Ritz (at least the kit w/ 24-105mm lens has) and Adorama have begun to ship the Canon 5D Mark II.  Unless you got on the pre-order boat early, you may have to wait a bit more for the next shipment or so to come in.

Again, for those still shopping, the Canon 5D Mark II is available (depending on supply) from the following trusted vendors:

Canon 5D Mark II (body only) – Ritz Camera

Canon 5D Mark II (body only) – Amazon.com

Canon 5D Mark II w/ 24-105mm L lens – Amazon.com

Canon 5D Mark II (body only) – Adorama

Canon 5D Mark II w/ 24-105mm L lens – Adorama

Canon 5D Mark II (body only) – B&H Photo

Canon 5D Mark II w/ 24-105mm L lens – B&H Photo

The big mystery for me is when / if they’re actually shipping from Amazon. I ordered mine the day it was announced (Sept 17th) on Amazon.com and so far they’re unable to even give me the slightest clue as to when I’m going to receive it. I’m not sure what to do as a result. Should I cancel from Amazon and go elsewhere? Where would I go?!

Tom – I wouldn’t cancel unless I had one in hand. For some reason Amazon is almost always the last to ship new bodies. It happened to me with the Rebel XSi, Nikon D60 and Sony A350 back in the Spring. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go out in the next few days from Amazon – still being the last ones to ship though. If you find it locally, you might pick one up and then cancel at Amazon. However, you’ll head to the back of the line anywhere else that takes pre/back-orders online.

You could continue hitting refresh on the B&H site in hopes that they will update their inventory. They typically won’t accept pre-orders and post inventory when it hits.

We just got our production unit. I heard they shipped less than 20 (or maybe 15, I don’t remember) units to our country and we were lucky enough to get one. Well, okay, not luck – it was sheer will power and persistence. Haven’t shot enough with it to make a decent review but will post unboxing pictures later. Everything looks perfect though.

Tom – I just confirmed that the 5D Mark II shipped has shipped in the US from Amazon (at least the kits w/ 24-105mm lens have). Depending on where you are in line (probably near the top), I’ll bet you get it soon. Keep us posted as to when you get it.

We all seem to complain about Amazon, Ritz, Adorama, B&H, etc… What about Canon USA? They are hyping this by sending out a few at a time. We should all take this up with Canon. They should be getting the calls, e-mails, etc. Let’s remind them that there is another competitor named Nikon who is willing to take our money.

I just picked mine up from Best Buy in Houston. They have one more left. Dallas store have them also. Funny thing is that they are listed for $9,999.99. I had to get a manager involved, when the not so bright clerk was arguing with me that it was a $10K camera. The manager ended up selling it for the correct price.

Will be canceling with Ritz soon.
