Nikon has announced several new Coolpix-branded compact cameras, which include the Coolpix S6100, S4100, S3100 and L24.
Nikon Coolpix S6100
The Nikon S6100 (top) is a 16MP compact camera with a 7x optical zoom lens (28-192mm equivalent) and the ability to capture 720p HD video. The S6100 covers a sensitivity range of ISO 80-3200 and allows Auto ISO from ISO 80-1600, along with the ability to limit the highest sensitivity setting to ISO 400 or ISO 800.
The S6100 also features a high resolution 3-inch touchscreen LCD (460k-dot res) with an anti-reflective coating. The S6100 will be available in March 2011 for $199.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.
Nikon Coolpix S4100
The Nikon S4100 is a 14MP compact shooter with a 5x optical zoom lens (26-130mm equivalent) and a 3-inch 460k-dot res touchscreen LCD. The S4100 can capture 720p HD video and covers a sensitivity range of ISO 80-3200, along with the same Auto ISO settings as found on the S6100.
The S4100 should be available in late February for $179.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.
Nikon Coolpix S3100
Similar to the S4100, the Nikon Coolpix S3100 sports a 14MP sensor and 5x optical zoom lens (26-130mm equivalent). However, the S3100 steps down to a 2.7-inch LCD at a rather low 230k-dot resolution. The S3100 will still grab 720p HD video though.
The S3100 also gets a price break from the S4100’s touchscreen premium, and should be available in late February 2011 for $139.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.
Nikon Coolpix L24
The Nikon Coolpix L24 is the new low-end, budget shooter in the Coolpix lineup. It features a 14MP sensor and a humble 3.6x optical zoom lens (37-134mm equivalent). Nikon managed to put a 3-inch LCD on the L24; however, it is coupled with an entry-level resolution of 230k-dot res.
As expected from the entry-level model, control over camera operation will be limited, and sensitivity settings range from ISO 80-1600 in Auto ISO only. The L24 should be available in late February 2011 for $119.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.
