Alongside the new A58, Sony also unveiled a trio of new lenses two of which are pro-level and one is a revised kit lens for entry-level cameras like the A58.
The Sony 70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM II and Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm F1.4 ZA SSM are the high-end models with full frame coverage, priced at $2200 and $1500, respectively.
The new 70-400mm lens offers improved optics over its predecessor, including Sony’s new Nano AR coating to reduce flare and ghosting. It also an improved and more responsive AF system. The 70-400mm lens is expected to be available in July.
The new Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZA lens joins the Distagon 24mm, Planar 85mm and Sonnar 135mm lenses in Sony’s A-mount line. It is expected to ship in May.
The Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II lens is a new kit lens with a redesigned rear element to reduce flare and ghosting, as well as upgraded mechanical elements for smoother operation. It will be available in May for around $220 retail. It is also packaged with the new Sony A58 as its kit lens.
