The Ricoh Theta is a handheld 360° spherical camera – the first of its kind. The Theta features a proprietary ultra-small twin-lens folded optical system that captures the scene around, above and below the device in one shot for fully spherical images.
Theta syncs with smartphones, which will allow the images to be immediately transmitted via WiFi and viewed with a dedicated free app. The app also allows images to be pinched, swiped or rotated to edit size, shape and composition.
At launch, the Ricoh Theta will be compatible with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 running on iOS6 or higher. Android compatibility is expected to follow before the end of the year.
Ricoh Theta should be available for pre-order later this month for $399. We’ll keep you posted once it becomes available. More details on Theta can be found here on Ricoh’s website.
