Rode VideoMic Go is a New $99 Shotgun Mic for Mirrorless and DSLR Cameras

November 18, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Rode VideoMic Go 2

Rode has introduced the new VideoMic Go as a lightweight on-camera mic that doesn’t use batteries. The VideoMic Go is mounted on an integrated Rycote Lyre shock mount and weighs a minuscule 73 grams.

Because it uses no batteries, there is no power switch and the only interface is a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack on the back of the mic. The VideoMic Go is powered completely by cameras’ 2.5v output from the mic port – something that is universal on all modern cameras with mini-jack mic ports, including DSLR, mirrorless and GoPro cameras.

Below are some sample videos that contain audio captured with the VideoMic Go.
