Alongside the new Samsung NX1, the company also revealed a new pro-level lens to complement the flagship camera. The Samsung 50-150mm f/2.8 ED OIS S lens provides a field of view equivalent to 77-231mm on a full frame camera. As such, the lens fills the slot for what would typically be a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom in most other DSLR lines.
Because the Samsung NX line is only comprised of APS-C format cameras, there is no need for traditional 35mm format focal length lenses and Samsung can build its lineup from scratch.
The Samsung 50-150mm f/2.8 ED OIS S model consists of 20 lens elements in 13 groups, which includes 4 extra-low dispersion elements and 1 eXtreme High Refractive element for what should be impressive optical performance in the NX line. The lens accepts 72mm filters, which means it is a bit smaller than the typical 77mm filter size we see on 70-200mm lenses – another advantage of working exclusively with the APS-C format.
The Samsung 50-150mm f/2.8 ED OIS S lens runs $1599. Availability dates have not been released yet. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
