Earlier this month, G-Technology released its new rugged bumper and all-terrain case. Essentially, these are the G-Drive ev portable hard drives we’ve previously seen, which can be used independently or with the G-Dock ev.
The new rugged option includes an option with a bumper case that can handle a 1.5-meter drop. It’s a USB 3.0, bus-powered drive with a SATA port for connecting to the G-Dock ev. The G-Drive ev RaW with Rugged Bumper is available in 1TB or 500GB capacites for $129.95 and $99.95, respectively.
The other option is the G-Drive ev ATC with either Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 connectivity. These cases are watertight and even float if they make their way to body of water. Additionally, the ATC units can withstand a 2-meter drop. As noted above, the drives can be removed from the cases and inserted into the G-Dock ev.
You can buy a G-Drive ev ATC with or without the hard drive. A Thunderbolt ATC kit runs $229.95 with a 1TB drive, while a USB 3.0 ATC kit with a 1TB drive runs $179.95. Standalone ev ATC cases run $129.95 for Thunderbolt and $79.95 with USB 3.0 connectivity.
Notably, the ev ATC cases also work with existing G-Drive ev drives, including the G-Drive EV SSD, which gives an incentive to spring for the Thunderbolt version. And, in case you are wondering, the ev ATC case has a SATA adapter inside (to connect to the SATA port on the back of the G-Drive) and a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 controller (depending on the model) to provide max throughput to your computer.
The new rugged G-Drive product line will start shipping in January, with the full line available in February. Check out the G-Drive ev rugged options here at B&H Photo.
