LaCie looks to be the first company out of the gate with a new USB-C external drive that is compatible with Apple’s new MacBook.
The LaCie Mobile Drive has an on-board USB-C port to match the USB-C port on the MacBook. It also includes adapters for traditional USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 cables.
The LaCie Mobile Drive delivers 100MB/s performance using the USB-C port over the USB 3.0 standard; however, USB-C drives coming later this year are expected to use the USB 3.1 standard.
Bus power is provided from a host device like the new MacBook. The drive will be available in 500GB (as a slim drive), 1TB and 2TB. It should ship next quarter. Pricing has not yet been revealed.
