JCH StreetPan 400 is a New Black & White Film

March 18, 2016 By Eric Reagan

JCH Street Pan 400

It’s been a busy year so far with film. A couple weeks back, we saw the writing on the wall for Fujifilm FP-100C instant film, which likely means the end of an entire format. However, we’ve also seen new film introduced with CineStill launching both medium format and large format versions of its 800T film. And now, Japan Camera Hunter is launching its own 35mm film – JCH StreetPan 400.

The film is not a completely new emulsion, but rather is re-born from an old discontinued surveillance film that was originally made by AGFA. JCH StreetPan 400 can be exposed as a 200 to 500 ASA/ISO film.

Key Applications

  • The very fine graininess and the high speed make this film an ideal for use in traffic infringement cameras in a wide range of weather conditions. Or if you are not a speed camera, street photography, in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • The low fog level at high temperature processing makes the film suitable for high volume processing applications.
  • Due to its sensitivity to red light, JCH StreetPan 400 is the optimum film for dawn, dusk and winter photography.
  • Its speed and sensitometric characteristics make the film extremely suitable for low light and low sun angle photography (long shadow areas) and for wide latitude photographic exposure.

StreetPan 400 will sell for 975 Yen per roll in packs of 10, which works out to $87.50 for a 10-pack. After shipping to the US, it works out to about $105 total.

It could be the processing, exposure (and subject matter) but the sample images for this film don’t look very appealing.
What are other photographers’ views on this film?
