Corel Painter 11

Corel released Painter 11 today, which builds upon the prior versions and promises to deliver more advanced features.  According to Corel, the new pressure-sensitive brushes allow hand and brush to fluidly work as one, producing brushstrokes that are unrivaled in texture and precision.  Color management has also been improved to cater to the needs of photographers.  It is available for download from corel.com at $399 for the full version and $199 for the upgrade.  Boxed versions are also available.

Camera Raw 5.3 and Lightroom 2.3 Release Candidates

The Camera Raw 5.3 and Lightroom 2.3 Release Candidates are now available on Adobe Labs.  Please note that these updates are Release Candidates and not final releases of the software.  As Adobe puts it:

The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers.

Camera Raw 5.3 Release Notes:

Newly supported camera models include:

  • Nikon D3X
  • Olympus E-30

This release is not currently compatible with After Effects. This will be addressed before the final release
This release addresses possible artifacts that could appear in Canon EOS 5D Mk II sRAW files.

Lightroom 2.3 Release Notes:

The goal of this release is to address several bugs and provide additional camera raw support. A list of issues fixed in this release is included below:

Bugs – Fixed

  • In the Windows 64-bit version of Lightroom an sFTP upload process could cause Lightroom to crash.
  • Slideshows could return to the first image randomly during playback.
  • A memory leak could cause Lightroom to crash while attempting to process files with local adjustments.
  • Canon EOS 5D Mk II sRAW files could process with artifacts in Lightroom 2.2.
  • Lightroom 2.2 could cause disc burning to fail for Windows customers.

Newly supported camera models include:

  • Nikon D3X
  • Olympus E-30

  • After importing new photos into iPhoto, iLovePhotos will automatically import them.
  • Export all of your tags to iPhoto.

Apple Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.4

Apple has released its Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.4, which adds RAW support to Aperture 2 and iPhoto ’08 for the following cameras:

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II
  • Canon PowerShot G10
  • Pentax K2000/K-m
  • Leaf AFi-II 6
  • Leaf AFi-II 7
  • Leaf Aptus-II 6
  • Leaf Aptus-II 7
  • Leica M8.2

The update also addresses issues related to specific cameras and overall stability.

Lightroom 2.2 Release

Adobe has released Lightroom 2.2, which Canon 5D Mark II owners have been begging for since the camera first released.

The Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 2.2 update includes these enhancements:

  • Additional camera support for the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon PowerShot G10, Panasonic DMC-LX3 and more**
  • Includes several corrections for issues introduced by the Lightroom 2.0 release

Apple Releases Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 2.3

Apple has released Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 2.3, extends RAW file compatibility for Aperture 2 and iPhoto ’08 for the Canon 50D, Nikon D90, Sony A900 and Nikon Coolpix P6000.  It also addresses issues related to specific cameras and overall stability.

Apple Aperture 2.1.2 Now Available

Apple has updated Aperture 2 with latest version 2.1.2, which is availble for download here. The Aperture 2.1.2 update improves the printing quality of books, cards and calendars ordered through the Aperture printing service. The update is recommended for all customers using Aperture 2.
