Sony A200 Review at Digital Camera Review

June 17, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Digital Camera Review has posted a review of the Sony A200.

Image and color quality are good and there’s a host of inputs available to customize image parameters if the default shots don’t suit your fancy. The shutter is “DSLR quick” and auto focus performance is good in normal to marginal light, and acceptable in dim light.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50 Review at PhotographyBLOG

June 16, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50.

. . . the H50’s image quality is better than expected, and if its images don’t quite sing like those from a DSLR with a subject dedicated lens attached, they’re nevertheless reassuringly sharp and colourful even at the default settings, with the ability to adjust these parameters either way to suit personal taste.

Sony Cybershot W150 Review at DP Expert

Sony Cybershot W150

DP Expert has posted a review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W150.

We are impressed. The black model that we had for testing is handsome. It has a high quality feel and appearance. The inclusion of an optical viewfinder is a plus, even if it is small and restricted in the coverage of image area.

Sony Back-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensor

June 11, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Sony is about to shake things up in the digital camera world with a new image sensor.  Those of you who think the Live View tech and articulating LCD panel are just gimmicks (see Sony A350 review) will enjoy this potentially revolutionary development.  In the sample image below, you can see the potential that this new sensor technology brings to the table.  A couple of the obvious benefits to photographers are low light shooting with lower noise levels, which results in better overall image quality.  Currently, the prototype sensor is only 5 megapixels (which is probably plenty for most of us in most applications); however, you can expect Sony to push this tech to its limits and produce some astounding cameras in the near future.

PRESS RELEASE

Tokyo, Japan – Sony Corporation today announced the development of a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor (pixel size: 1.75µm square pixels, five effective mega pixels, 60 frames/s) with significantly enhanced imaging characteristics, including nearly twofold sensitivity*1 and low noise. This improved performance has been achieved by illuminating the backside of the silicon substrate, in contrast to conventional CMOS image sensors based on front-illumination technology. [Read more…]
