Several retailers have already begun taking pre-orders for the new Canon 7D. The Canon 5D Mark II was plagued with availability problems last fall/winter for those not on the pre-order bandwagon. The Samsung HZ25W is a 12.5-megapixel point and shoot camera featuring a 24x optical zoom that covers a range equivalent from 26-624mm on full frame camera. The HZ25W also features optical image stabilization, 720p HD video capture, ISO 3200 sensitivity at 5-megapixels, ISO 6400 at 3-megapixels, and RAW format capabilities.

Today, Canon has announced the EOS 7D to add to its lineup of DSLRs. The Canon 7D is an 18-megapixel DSLR that adds several upgrades from prior generation prosumer DSLRs.
While the 18-megapixel APS-C (1.6x crop) CMOS sensor is an upgrade of 3-megapixels over the 50D, the Canon 7D is more akin to the pro-level 5D Mark II in terms of its features and build. A new autofocus system consisting of 19 cross-type points will likely be welcomed by most shooters. Additionally, Canon has addressed the cries of many aspiring filmmakers by including several frame rate options, including 1080p recording at 24fps.
The Canon 7D is likely to become known as the pro-level crop-sensor camera in Canon’s lineup.
The 7D should be available in September 2009 at an initial retail price of $1699 for body only and in a kit with Canon’s EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM at an initial retail price of $1899.
If you want one before Christmas, you should probably get in line by pre-ordering the 7D now so as to avoid the long wait-list that plagued the 5D Mark II’s arrival. [Read more…]

Today, Olympus has announced the E-600 DSLR, which features a 12.3-megapixel sensor. The E-600 also offers a 2.7-inch vari-angle LCD screen, Olympus’ popular Art Filters and in-body image stabilization.

It’s pretty clear that the Canon 7D is all but official and that it is slotted between the Canon 50D and 5D Mark II. While it retains the 1.6x crop sensor format of the 50D and its predecessors, the 7D is definitely geared more toward serious amateurs and pro wildlife and sports photographers. [Read more…]
The Nikon D300s is beginning to become available at several retailers. Some have already been in and out of stock. Expect this trend to continue for at least the next several days, if not weeks.

More tips from Southern Photo Technical Service on some Nikon rumors – this time the D700s is on the table. Rather than the rumored D700x that we’ve heard so much about lately.
Nikon will release a D700s as upgraded version of the Nikon D700. This is the word we got last week and all Nikonians will like the new features at the same range price as D700.
Given that the Nikon D300s replaced the D300, the naming convention might make sense. And even though the Nikon D700 is a stellar camera, many Nikon shooters have been begging for a more affordable 24-megapixel shooter (as opposed the the pricey Nikon D3x). This sentiment will likely continue to grow now that Sony has the full frame, high resolution A850 at a $2000 price point.
