Olympus E-420 Review at DP Review

June 23, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DP Review has posted a review of the Olympus E-420.

Despite its small dimensions the camera is surprisingly well specified; even more so when considering its price point. You won’t find live view and the E-420’s level of customization on other manufacturers’ entry level offerings (at least not if they’re in the same price bracket). In fact, the E-420’s spec sheet looks more like something we’d expect from a mid-range SLR.

June 22, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Steve’s Digicams has posted a review of the Olympus SP-570 UZ.

Bottom Line – the Olympus SP-570 UZ is a very capable 10.1-megapixel Ultra-zoom camera that offers a variety of very nice features, including an awesome 20x Wide optical zoom lens. The image quality was excellent both indoors and out.

Pentax Optio V20 Review at Trusted Reviews

June 22, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Pentax Optio V20.

The Optio V20 is an attractively designed and well made ultra-compact camera, and the 5x zoom, large wide-view monitor screen and simple control interface make it versatile and pleasant to use, although it lacks a number of useful features, including effective image stabilisation.

Canon EOS 1000D Hands-On Review at Let’s Go Digital

June 21, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Let’s Go Digital has posted a hands-on, cursory review of the new Canon EOS 1000D (a.k.a. Digital Rebel XS).

The main differences with the 400D are Live View, DIGIC III, a 7-point AF instead of a 9-point AF, auto ISO setting, unlimited JPEG buffer but a lesser amount of RAW pictures, LP-E5 battery instead of the NB-2LH and on top of that a decreased weight of 502 grams which makes the Canon EOS 1000D Canon’s lightest digital SLR camera ever.

Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 Review at Imaging Resource

June 21, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Imaging Resource has posted a review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-H50.

While not the longest of the long zooms, the Sony H50 does provide above average autofocus performance, critical in this application, with a competent Carl Zeiss lens.

Nikon Coolpix S550 Review at Photodoto

June 21, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photodoto has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix S550.

Overall I would certainly recommend this camera to a friend, it’s a good all round camera with plenty of features for those who want to experiment or the option to just point and shoot for those who like to keep it simple.

Nik Software Viveza Review at PhotographyBLOG

June 21, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotograhyBLOG has posted a review of the Nik Viveza image editing software.

Viveza only does one thing, but it does it better than any tool I’ve ever used. If you spend a lot of time in Photoshop or Aperture editing your images, you’ll find Viveza will quickly become an integral part of your workflow, and it will repay the cost of purchase in no time at all.

Nikon D700 on July 1st?

June 20, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Jacobs Digital Photo and Video is touting a major announcement is coming on July 1st.

Everyone likes surprises, well we have one !! There will be a big surprise on the 1st July 2008, a major supplier will be announcing a brand new SLR. KEEP WATCHING !

[Jacobs]

This appears to confirm the prior rumors and speculation regarding an announcement from Nikon on July 1st. The rumors had previously been linked to a coming D3X; however, in light of the recent leaks, my money is on the Nikon D700. Additionally, note that Jacobs points out that “a” new SLR is coming, indicating only one new model, instead of the trio from Nikon we have been expecting. Perhaps Nikon will save something nice for Photokina 2008.

Also, I could always be wrong. Jacobs clearly has better info that I do at the moment, so maybe Canon has something up their sleeve with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II model? One things for sure, we’ve got about a week and a half to wait on the “surprise” announcement.
