Nikon Coolpix L100, L20 and L19

Adding to the Coolpix lineup, Nikon has introduced the L100, L20 and L19 point and shoot cameras.  The L100 should be available in April 2009, while the L19 and L20 are slated for February 2009.

The lens quality is very good, with excellent edge-to-edge sharpness at all focal lengths, and what little barrel distortion it does produce is corrected automatically in camera.

Image quality can be good under ideal conditions, good bright light mostly. Speed is rather good as well. Higher sensitivities suffer from destructive processing, so ISO has to be kept low to keep the L100 happy.

Canon 500D and 1D Mark IIIn Update

A short but direct post on POTN, claims that a “Canon Rep” mentioned a new Rebel and Mark III would be coming to PMA 2009.

I don’t put a whole lot of stock in third hand reports of what camera reps say, but as we close in to PMA we should start hearing more chatter about a number of manufacturers’ new products.

In the mean time, you can follow the latest rumors on the new Canon Rebel XRi / 500D / (or whatever it’s called).  Also, Canon 1D Mark IIIn updates here.

Canon 50D Review at DC Resource

The Canon EOS-50D is a very competent midrange digital SLR. It offers very good photo quality (with a quality lens attached), rocket-fast performance, plenty of manual controls and customizable features, and a super-sharp 3-inch LCD.
