At first glance, the Samsung NX11 could be mistaken for the NX10. In fact, the cameras are very similar in ergonomics, controls and overall specifications. I had a chance to spend a few minutes with preproduction NX11 at CES. Read on for my initial impressions of the camera. [Read more…]

Un Mensaje de Chile

A quick "vintage" conversion processed on the new site MakeRetro.com.
You may have noticed that posting has been a little light over the past few days here on Photography Bay. Internet access has been a bit spotty over the past few days as I have traveled to and through Chile. I have volunteered to document a scouting trip for Global Infusion, which currently has no presence here in Chile. Aside from a day-trip into Ontario, this is my first time outside of the US.
What I’ve seen thus far is a beautiful country, along with beautiful people and culture. However, there are still many difficulties for the people here. [Read more…]

Short Film ‘Tick Tock’ Shot with 5D Mark II in Seamless Take
Anyone who has tried their hand at video knows that long takes are challenging from both a technical and creative aspect. For one, everything has to go right with the camera and all the surrounding technical components. And two, the subject matter has to be engaging enough in order to justify the long take.
This student short film managed to wrangle both challenges for a very compelling short film made up of roughly a four and a half minute seamless take. It was shot with a 5D Mark II and 24-70mm lens on a Steadicam Merlin. They shot 36 takes in total.
Check out the behind the scenes video below. [Read more…]

Olympus TOUGH TG-810 is “Crushproof”
The Olympus TG-810 is the latest in the TOUGH lineup. As the flagship camera in this line, Olympus has now upped the ante, claiming that the TG-810 is “crushproof.” Other adjectives that describe this camera’s ruggedness include, waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and scratch resistant. Frankly, I’m a little disappointed that Olympus makes a camera that is crushproof, yet only scratch resistant…
All jokes aside, the TG-810 leads headlines Olympus’ lineup of rugged cameras with a 14MP sensor, 5x optical zoom (28-140mm equivalent), 720p HD video capture and a nice 3-inch, 920k-dot resolution LCD. Additionally, the TG-810 sports a GPS unit and electronic compass, which makes it even more of an outdoor-ready camera.
The TG-810 should be available in April at an initial retail price of $399.99. Check availability on Amazon.com.
