The new Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 APO EX DC OS HSM now available at a street price of $1099. The lens range works out to roughly a 75-225mm equivalent on APS-C cameras like the Canon 7D and Nikon D7000. Canon, Nikon and Sigma-mount versions are expected to ship by the end of April.
The lens is currently available for pre-order at B&H Photo.

In the UK, first potential stockists are listing it at around the same figure in GBP (as USD), around 1000. Its predecessor, without OS, was around half that price. This makes the new version more expensive than the 150-500 OS and about the same price as the 50-500 OS.
I’d say that it is ridiculously over-priced. I was hoping to buy one, just missed out on the older non-OS version as all stocks had been sold when I was looking, and now it is way beyond my price-range. Sad :-(

I have a different take than ChrisM. It will be interesting to see if they have pushed the fine detail capability with that big sticker price. I would be interested if it stands out in comparison with those he mentions. I do a lot of low light medium distance shooting of performers in incandescent lighting. I use a Nikon D300 with a variety of lenses, but my 17-55mm DX, f2.8 is the general purpose one.
