LaCie has updated its Rugged hard drive line with a new drive that features a built-in Thunderbolt cable, as well as a USB 3.0 port and higher capacity SSD options.
The new Rugged drive is available with either spinning drives or an SSD. The SSD versions will capitalize more on the available speed from the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connections by delivering transfer speeds up to 387MB/s. The spinning drive models will deliver speeds at a more lackluster 122MB/s (still substantially better than the old FireWire 800 days).
The Rugged drive is built to withstand drops from up to 6.6 feet and with the port cover in place is protected against dust and water to IP 54-level specs. Additionally, included software allows you to protect files with AES 256-bit encryption.
The new LaCie Rugged line will be available this month in the following capacities:
- 1TB hard drive for $219.99
- 2TB hard drive for $299.99
- 250GB SSD for $299.99
- 500GB SSD for $499.99
Look for them to show up soon here at B&H Photo.
