Polar Pro Proview GoPro/Smartphone Mount Hands-On

November 17, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Polar Pro Proview Smartphone GoPro Case-3

The Polar Pro Proview mount is so slick and convenient that I can’t believe no one has cooked up this product until now.

As you are probably aware, GoPro has a handy app that lets you control your GoPro HERO camera and preview the live image on your smartphone. It’s available for iOS, Android and Windows devices for free from the respective app stores.

Polar Pro Proview Smartphone GoPro Case

The Polar Pro Proview mount/case attaches your GoPro directly to your cell phone for a very integrated feel while operating the camera. The case has a standard GoPro mount at the top, which allows you to attach a GoPro with an ordinary thumbscrew.

Once attached, you can easily hold your smartphone for monitoring and your GoPro with one hand. It’s really too simple.

When you detach the GoPro, the case still functions as a normal smartphone cases – with the exception of the GoPro mount on the top. Of course, Polar Pro recognized that inconvenience and includes a non-GoPro top piece for the case. That means you can leave your GoPro attached to the top piece and simply slide it onto the top of your phone when you are ready to shoot.

It’s a great design and looks like it will be a very easy way of shooting while maintaining your framing with a smartphone.

The Polar Pro Proview runs $29.99-$39.99 and is currently available for iPhone 5/5s and Samsung Galaxy S5 phones. A new model for the iPhone 6 should be just around the corner. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

More details available on Polar Pro’s website.

Pretty cool but really only useful for photos. The video viewing is delayed about 3 seconds on the app which makes it useless if you were recording a moving subject.

Now that the Hero4 Silver has a built in LCD, this is not very necessary for as many people. Would get a small gimble or handle if wanting to shoot handheld – unless you want to do a lot of motion tracking to reduce the shakes.

Good point about the HERO4 Silver. I think Vancian also makes a good point about how useful it is for photos. Even if you do have another type of mount, this is very convenient from a grip and carrying standpoint.
