Both cameras feature a new 24.2MP CMOS image sensor and offer new features like built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity. In fact, the internal capabilities of the cameras are nearly identical. So, for image quality, you should expect the same out of both models.
The difference comes with some of the more advanced controls and interface options with the Canon Rebel T6s. For instance, both cameras can shoot 1080p video; however, if you want manual exposure, digital zoom or a mic input, then you will need to spring for the Canon Rebel T6s. Additionally, the Rebel T6s features a top LCD panel, quick control dial horizontal level and built-in HDR movie capabilities.
The Canon Rebel T6i seems positioned to continue the entry-level Rebel line, following the Rebel T5i. The Canon Rebel T6s, however, offers a more advanced experience at a more affordable price than stepping up to a higher-end model. As such, the Canon Rebel T6s is directed more toward users looking to upgrade to their second DSLR without having to jump up much in price.
Both models are expected to ship in April 2015.
The Canon Rebel T6i runs $749 for the body only. It is available for $899 with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens, and also for $1099 with the EF-S 18-135mm IS STM kit lens. Check out all of the options here at B&H Photo.
