Beastgrip Pro is versatile tool for camera phone photographers and videographers that is part of new Kickstarter campaign and should hit its $50,000 goal by day 2 at this rate.
It is a custom rig designed not only for the iPhone, but for all camera smartphones, to attach a variety of professional photo and video accessories.
The Beastgrip Pro body is made of a durable nylon material. It features an adjustable mount for a variety of smartphones, including larger phablet devices like the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus. It has a grip for the right hand and features a brass lens mount ring, which accepts 37mm threaded lenses and conversion filters.
Beastgrip Pro also offers lenses and what looks like an exciting DOF adapter for pairing SLR lenses with your smartphones for a much shallower depth of field than otherwise capable.
The DOF adapter uses a Canon EF lens mount and a Canon EE-a focusing screen mated with a set of macro lenses. This combination allows the smartphone to capture the image off of the focusing screen, which produces the shallow depth of field akin to using a DSLR.
It looks like a well designed product that is already turning heads on its way to crushing the initial goal. The Beastgrip Pro alone requires a pledge of $70; however, you can bundle a pair of wide-angle and fisheye lenses with it for $105. The DOF adapter, perhaps the most enticing piece of the kit, runs $105.
All products have an estimated delivery date of August 2015. Check out more details here on Kickstarter.

I dont get it… why make a telephone look like and weigh like a dslr while sacrificing real quality (a lens in front of a lens sounds to me like horse pulling an electric car) when there are a lot of small mirrorles cams with the same size, more flexibility, higher quality and a real viewfinder instead of a (in sunny conditions) useless monitor…
And what if i get called for a ‘once in a lifetime assignment’ during a ‘once in a lifetime shot’ ;-)
To me this kind of rigs is nothing more then clever marketing of nicelooking but totally but useless products.

I have to agree with Rob on this one. It looks like a thoughtfully designed and well built solution to a non existent problem. It eliminates the one advantage of a smartphone camera, that it’s generally always available in pocket, purse, case or, for many, already in hand.

Glad I’m not alone in thinking this is a waste.
Heck for example you can get a Canon M and the adapter for all Canon lenses at ridiculous low prices. Whole lot smaller package & like a thousand times better overall results.
Like spending ten thousand dollars just to pimp out a Honda accord I suppose. Guess there’s people that are just that strange.

For me this rig was my cheap entrance in 4K video making. Not saying it is the ultimative solution, but i still made revenue with it, that is now bringing me to more professional equipment and more business. For me it was precious awhile back. Will stay as a memory on my shelf.

the concept is good, but i think the beastgrip is way for me. I retired to the philippines and getting quality name brand modern camera equipment doesn’t come cheap and video is even worse. I wanted some flex with my phone and action camera. I recently purchased a zecti phone mount delivered for almost $50. It is a good unit and lets me mount lights, mic, and tripod for vlogging. There is a 37mm filter lens ring mount and to use it with the filter collection from my dslr (nikon d300) I just use step rings.I realized I could mount an M42 mount I have for my telescope. This immediately changed my options as I can mount both my phone and gopro to the telescope. It had me thinking though i can acquire nice old m42 lenses quite cheaply with little to no import duties and taxes I currently have a set of vintage pentax lenses with 6 primes, 4 zooms, a macro bellows setup and a giant zeiss glass 1100mm lens are currently on their way to me from japan for under $150 USD. I am unsure how often any of this will get used save for the macro bellow which should get a lot of use, but for under $200 I have greatly expanded my photo and video options. This could be done for under a hundred in the US
