LaCie has announced a new Rugged Thunderbolt external drive with a 1TB SSD inside, which doubles the capacity to the existing Rugged SSD drive.
The new 1TB drive delivers speeds up to 387MB/s, allowing it to transfer 100GB of data in less than 5 minutes. It has an integrated Thunderbolt cable that easily stows away in the rubberized housing. The drive is bus-powered via the Thunderbolt cable or by a USB 3.0 cable (not integrated).
The LaCie Rugged is MIL-compliant, which means that data is protected during drops of up to 2 meters (6.6 feet). With its cap in place, the LaCie Rugged is also IP 54-rated for protection against dust and water splashing — even during operation.

The LaCie Rugged 1TB SSD will be available this month for $949. Watch for it on LaCie’s website and here at B&H Photo.
