Canon EF 1000mm f/5.6L IS DO Lens Patent Surfaces

June 6, 2016 By Eric Reagan

Canon 800mm Version I

If the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM lens isn’t long enough for you, a recent patent application shows that Canon is working on an even longer lens – an EF 1000mm f/5.6L IS DO model.

We’ve seen how compact Canon can make a 600mm f/4L IS DO lens, so it will be interesting to see just what a 1000mm f/5.6 lens with diffractive optics looks like if it actually comes to market.

Since the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM runs about $13K, expect this 1000mm option to cost a pretty penny.
