The Transcend RDF9 is a basic USB 3.1/3.0 memory card reader with slots for CF, SD and microSD cards. These are the memory cards I use on a daily basis – and I think that’s probably true for most photographers.
The performance is solid and it is especially noticeable with the UHS-II SD cards when you attach the reader to a computer equipped with USB 3.0 ports. You can get a flavor of how fast files transfer from the card to the computer in the video below.
It delivers up to 260MB/s read speeds and 190MB/s write speeds. It works with PC, Mac and Linux operating systems. It pairs nicely with Transcend’s UHS-II SD and UDMA 7 CF cards. There isn’t a whole lot more to say about this card reader. It is fast, reliable and affordable. At $16.95, it offers everything that most photographers need at about the fastest speeds possible today.
For the price, it’s one of the easiest memory card reader choices out there today. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Nice to see card readers that still include Compact Flash.

I’ll be glad when Compact Flash dies completely though (the pins!). In the mean time, I really like this compact, fast and cheap reader.

I’ve used the previous version Transcend RDF8 for a long time, but recently was finding video file transfer speeds to be quite slow. Tried the Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual-Slot Reader (LRW300URBNA) and improved a bit. The Lexar is CF/SD and often under $20 from Amazon.

That sinking feeling when you have bent both the pins in the reader and the camera…… clumsy fool. Can I get this in the UK?
Eric Reagan says
That’s impressive…. And sad.
And yeah, it’s available in the UK. You should find it on Amazon.co.uk.

I wonder if XQD will become standard at all. Generally Sony products don’t but the fact that Nikon still supports it, makes a case for it.
