ON1 Photo RAW 2018 is now officially out of beta and available for purchase. With several new features, the ON1 Photo RAW 2018 looks to capture some of Adobe Lightroom’s market share from those photographers who are not inclined to continue down the subscription path as Adobe locks future upgrades for Lightroom to its subscription-only Creative Cloud plan.
If you missed out on the beta, ON1 will still let you download the full version of Photo RAW 2018 for a 30-day trial period to kick the tires. You can download it here from ON1’s website.
I bought ON one Raw 2017 a few months ago and now we have another version, at an upgrade price only slightly less than the new price. A different kind of subscription model?
If ON1 wants to differentiate its position from Adobe iCloud it needs to reassure purchasers of their software that if they introduce an enhance/upgrade within 18 months following the date of purchase the customer will be entitled to one free upgrade. Such an approach would add creditability to their marketing approach and assure customers their investment is protected for a reasonable period. Anything less really exposes the customer to a different subscription model.
