The Nikon CoolPix S230 is attractively designed, and it is certainly well made, but the trendy touch-screen interface can’t hide the fact that this is actually a very average camera.

The SX1 IS is a nicely designed, easy to use camera with a very useful zoom range and an effective image stabilization system.

The Tamron SP AF60mm F/2.0 Di II LD (IF) MACRO 1:1 is a lens for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. The 1:1 macro spec will produce life-sized images for serious macro work. The Di II designation indicates that the new 60mm lens is compatible only with APS-C sized DLSR sensor (i.e., crop-sensors). Check availability at Amazon.com.

Rob Galbraith has a solid hands-on preview of the new Canon Rebel T1i (including some sample video clips):
A shallow focus effect can definitely be achieved with the Rebel T1i, but the 5D Mark II’s larger sensor – and resulting longer focal length for a given field of view – allows for shallow focus that is, well, shallower. How apparent or significant this is depends on what you’re trying to record, but in the one comparison we’ve done, the difference was dramatic.
