Fuji FinePix s8000fd at Megapixel.net

May 3, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Megapixel.net has posted a review of the Fuji FinePix s8000fd.

The Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd is a very versatile camera. For shutterbugs interested in a large zoom but not in a lot of photographic rigmarole, the snapper will take fine pictures without leaving the auto mode. On the other hand, the unit has plenty of flexibility for lenseslingers who demand more control over what they’re shooting.

Fujifilm FinePix S100fs Review at Photo Review

May 1, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photo Review has posted a review of the Fujifilm FinePix S100fs.

Photographs taken with the test camera in bright lighting were colour accurate with more restrained saturation than we’re accustomed to in digicams. They also showed a significantly wider-than-average dynamic range. In our shooting tests we found increasing the dynamic range expansion settings tended to reduce overall image contrast.

Fujifilm Finepix S100FS Review at DPReview

April 28, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DPReview has posted a review of the 11.1 megapixel Fuji Finepix S100FS.

It represents an awful lot of camera for comparatively little money and one that is more flexible than a DSLR kit for the same outlay. Its feature set, including very respectable RAW performance and dynamic range optimization is impressive. It’s nice to see a flash hot shoe, even if it isn’t as sophisticated as the ones found on most DSLRs.

High ISO in Compact Cameras

May 26, 2007 By Eric Reagan

If you’ve not read this article over at DPReview.com, you need to.

It’s a very well written article that explains the problems and limitations of high ISO settings in compact digital camera.  It’s got some comparisons of the rather popular compact cameras that show just how these high ISO settings aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.

After seeing these results, the Fuji FinePix F30 (at $289, it’s a steal) just moved up to the top of my shopping list.

Understanding Exposure, DIY Backdrops, Viewfinder Shots and an Itty Bitty Pretty Camera

May 10, 2007 By Eric Reagan

I’ve always recommended the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson because it does a great job of putting together all of the elements that go into a properly exposed photograph and explains it for the Average Joe. Consider picking up a copy. It’ll be the best $15 you spend in photography. Likewise, take a look at this resourceful tool, an interactive camera that demonstrates the effect that camera settings have on your photograph. You can see instant results for exposure and depth of field components. If you don’t quite get it yet, then check out these two useful tools for honing your skills as a photographer. If you do “get it”, I think both are probably still worth your time.

Need a backdrop and strapped for cash? Consider doing it yourself. Here’s how to.

If you haven’t read Rich Legg’s “Through the Viewfinder” post, go check it out now.  It’s pretty cool stuff!

Check out this review of the new Fuji F40fd. Fuji has finally caught on and made way for SD memory cards.  Kudos to Fuji.  For more on why that’s important, check out my prior post on Memory Cards and Cameras.  Finally, memory cards are still dirt cheap.  Even big ones.
