Nikon Reaches 80 Million Lens Milestone

June 13, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Nikon Lenses

Nikon has produced 80 million NIKKOR and 1 NIKKOR lenses in what is now the 80th year of the NIKKOR lens brand – with the first lens introduced in 1933.

Some of the most recent lenses introduced include the

  • AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR,
  • AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED and
  • AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.

Additionally, several new 1 NIKKOR lenses have been introduced recently including the

  • 1 NIKKOR VR 10-100mm f/4-5.6,
  • 1 NIKKOR VR 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 and
  • the 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2.

Nikon reached the 75 million lens mark in November 2012. Last month, Canon announced that it had produced 90 million EF lenses since 1987, when the EF line was originally introduced.

Nikon has produced a video to commemorate the 80th anniversary of NIKKOR lenses and gives us a peek into how Nikon lenses are made. Check it out below. [Read more…]

Nikon D7100 Review

June 6, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D7100

The Nikon D7100 is the successor to the popular D7000. As such, it builds on the success of its predecessor as a high resolution prosumer camera. While the D7000 offered a 16.2MP sensor, the D7100 steps up to a 24.1MP sensor and carries on the traditional DX format (APS-C) for the line. [Read more…]

Nikon D400 and D4s Rumor Update

June 1, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D400

It’s been quite some time since we have heard anything about the Nikon D400. When the D7100 launched, there was a lot of concern that the D400 wouldn’t show up to replace the D300s after all, and that Nikon would allow the D7100 to remain atop the DX camera lineup and the D600 would sit at the low end of the FX line as a gap-bridger to the D800.

New rumors suggest that the D400 was, in fact, pushed back in Nikon’s DSLR line-up in order to allow the D7100 to shine for awhile on its own. Of course, the D7100 is an excellent camera in its own right; however, it is still missing some things that you expect on a proper D300s replacement. [Read more…]

Nikon D700

Nikon has released firmware updates for the Nikon D300, D300s, D700 and P7700.

The firmware updates for the D300, D300s and D700 add support for the new Nikon 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lens.

The firmware update for the Nikon Coolpix P7700 includes the following improvements:

When shooting with shooting mode set to M (manual) with Flash, and the ISO sensitivity set to Auto, ISO 80-200, ISO 80-400, or ISO 80-800, ISO sensitivity was sometimes not locked at ISO 80 and a different ISO sensitivity was sometimes applied.  This issue has been resolved.

You can download the firmware updates here at Nikon’s website.

Nikon has released ViewNX 2.7.5 and Capture NX 2.4.2, which fix a bug with Nikon D600 files as described below.

When RAW images captured with a D600 running C firmware Ver. 1.01 at an Image area setting of DX (24×16) 1.5× and any Active D-Lighting setting other than Off were opened in Capture NX 2, a bright (whitish) diagonal line was visible. This issue has been resolved.
