Nikon D90 Review at PhotoReview

September 19, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotoReview has posted a review of the Nikon D90.

In both available-light shots and flash shots in low light levels, the test camera turned in an outstanding performance, recording images with little visible noise and no sign of blotchiness. Imatest confirmed our subjective assessments and showed only a slight decline in resolution as ISO sensitivity was increased.

Nikon D90 Review at DC Resource

September 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DC Resource has posted its review of the new Nikon D90.

Photo quality was excellent. The D90 took well-exposed photos with pleasing, accurate colors. Images have the smooth look that is a D-SLR trademark, though plenty of detail is still captured. The D90 really impressed me at high ISOs.

Nikon CoolPix P5100 Review at Trusted Reviews

September 14, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Nikon P5100.

The Nikon CoolPix P5100 is a small but worthwhile update of the P5000, and while it may not tempt owners of the previous model it is a good alternative to a point-and-shoot compact for anyone who wants a bit more creative photographic control.

Nikon D700 Review at Digital Camera Info

September 11, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Digital Camera Info has posted a review of the Nikon D700.

While the most spectacular examples come when you crank up the ISO setting to 6400 or more and go lurking in the dark, the option to shoot at 800 or even 1600 and achieve a hand-holdable shutter speed wielding a telephoto lens, while paying a minimal price is added image noise, is not to be taken lightly.

Nikon D90 Review at Think Camera

September 8, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Think Camera has posted a full review of the Nikon D90 and its 18-105mm VR kit lens.

The D90 is a trophy of a middleweight camera, with the D-movie HD video mode tagging on an extra medal or two. No other DSLR in the world has a video feature to match; which no doubt opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

Nikon D90 High ISO Samples + Video

September 7, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Since the Nikon D90 is “Now Shipping“, I decided to head down to my local Wolf Camera to see if they had one in stock.  They did.

I stuck in a SanDisk Extreme III SD card and snapped the following sample shots.  All images are Fine JPEG shot in Program Mode.  Click the images to see the original file – they’re big files though.

Nikon D90 ISO 1600

Nikon D90 ISO 3200

Nikon D90 ISO 6400

One more at ISO 6400

Ritz Camera is now listing the Nikon D90 as “In Stock”.  If you pre-ordered, hopefully, you’ll be getting yours in a day or two.

If you’re looking to get yours out the door from Ritz on Monday, you might want to get your order in.  Here’s the link.

Sorry, but Amazon and Adorama are still showing up as “pre-orders” as of the time of this post (12:30pm ET).

Nikon MX Format

September 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Nikon currently operates with two sensor formats in its DSLRs, DX and FX.  Practically speaking, the FX format is the same size as the old 35mm film frame.  The DX is smaller, which results in a “crop factor” of 1.5x when compared to the 35mm “full frame.”  Thus, a 50mm lens appears to have the focal length of a 75mm lens on a DX camera.  The Nikon D3 and D700 are FX format cameras.  All other Nikon DSLRs use a DX format sensor.

Recent rumblings and some pretty convincing evidence suggests that Nikon may have something bigger in store for us, much bigger. [Read more…]
