Samsung NX3

June 20, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Update: As of 1/4/10, the Samsung NX10 has been officially announced. For more details, click here.

It appears that the first Samsung NX Series camera will be dubbed the Samsung NX3 and may be slated for official announcement on July 7, 2009 according to a forum poster at OLED.at.  Interestingly, the rumored specs, posted below, include an HD AMOLED display.  The Samsung NV24HD and TL320 have a AMOLED display of 420K.  If this new NX Samsung camera come with that AMOLED (720) will be the first AMOLED with high resolution on a digital camera.  (Thanks Pete.) This would be a first in the digital camera world. [Read more…]

Samsung GX-30 and NX Series Rumored for July 7

June 12, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Update: As of 1/4/10, the Samsung NX10 has been officially announced.  For more details, click here.

A bit a rumor-mongering and “reports” suggest a July 7th announcement date for the Samsung GX-30 and an NX Series camera.

This post at Pentax Forums alludes the July 7 announce date, while following up with a couple of pictures I took at PMA 2009 of the new NX series prototype.  These images actually appeared on the promo screen, which was essentially a slide show of a NX series mockup that showed “features” of the coming camera system.  [Read more…]

Samsung GX-30 Rumors

May 26, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Photo Rumors is reporting to have reliable info that the Samsung GX-30 will be introduced in June 2009.  Presumably, this will be a follow-up to the Samsung GX-20.  Perhaps Samsung will change its mind and bring the GX-30 along with the Samsung NX series to US consumers.

The Samsung GX-20 was practically a clone of the Pentax K20D.  The partnership between Samsung and Pentax has been rumored to be taking a different direction since the K20D and GX-20 were introduced.  While it would make sense to see a K-7 clone as the new Samsung DSLR, recent trends between the two suggest otherwise.

At PMA 2009, Samsung was certainly not banging the DSLR drum.  In fact, they were downplaying it.  It would be curious to see Samsung jump out with a new DSLR when the NX series is still on the drawing board as a product they hope to launch by Q4 2009.  However, when the Photo Rumors folks call something reliable, there’s usually something to it.  Stay tuned.

Samsung NX Series – A Closer Look

March 4, 2009 By Eric Reagan

The Samsung NX Series mockups were on display, albeit behind glass, at PMA 2009.  Hoping to get more info out of Samsung personnel than the scant press release revealed, I launched into a series of questions about the new NX cameras.  Unfortunately, details were wrapped up so tight that the representatives on the floor claimed complete ignorance to anything other than what was displayed on the show floor – and even then continued to qualify the apparent specifications with suggestions that “these are just mockups” and “anything can change between now and final release.” [Read more…]

Samsung NX Series

March 2, 2009 By Eric Reagan

UPDATE 1/4/10: The Samsung NX10 has been announced.  Read more info by clicking here.

The new Samsung NX Series takes the hybrid cameras (read: no mirror box) to a new level. This is something that we’ve seen coming for a while. The new NX series will feature the larger, APS-C sensors which are prominent in consumer-grade DSLRs. However, the NX series loses the mirror box and offers an electronic viewfinder, much like the Olympus E-series cameras.

Note, however, that APS-C sensors, presumably the same as the 1.5x crop sensors in current Samsung DSLRs, are larger than the 2x crop sensors in Olympus cameras. Samsung has been aiming high for the past couple years, but has yet to wow us with a killer product. Samsung is now banking on these hybrid cameras to put its stamp on the industry. Details are slim at this point; however, I will be stopping by Samsung’s booth at PMA 2009 tomorrow to try and get more info. [Read more…]

Samsung TL320

February 23, 2009 By Eric Reagan

The Samsung TL320 is a 12 megapixel point and shoot camera. The TL320 carries the trendy form that is becoming rather expected among Samsung cameras. The immediate standout features are two analog gauges on the top of the camera, which give you readouts on remaining battery life and memory card capacity. [Read more…]

Samsung HZ15W

February 23, 2009 By Eric Reagan

The Samsung HZ15W is the big brother to the 10 megapixel HZ10W. The HZ15W is a 12 megapixel point and shoot camera which includes most of the key features that we’ve seen in point and shoot cameras that have been released in 2009. [Read more…]

Samsung Launches 4 New Point and Shoot Cameras

February 17, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Samsung has launched 4 new point and shoot cameras – two at 12.2 megapixels and two at 10 megapixels.  Samsung makes some pretty cameras that will probably capture sales on their stylishness alone.

Unfortunately though, other than the unnecessary addition of megapixels and the standard bells and whistles, such as Face Detection, Blink Detection, Smile Shot, and Beauty Shot (“a unique functionality which will automatically brighten and even out skin tones as well as remove blemishes”), there is nothing that sets these new point and shoots apart from the rest of the 10 and 12 megapixel cameras we have seen over the past month or so.  Each of these new cameras should be available in March 2009.

The models and key specs are as follows: [Read more…]

Samsung NV24 HD Review at Let’s Go Digital

February 15, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Let’s Go Digital has posted a review of the Samsung NV24 HD.

The serious photographer will appreciate the focal range and will perhaps be attracted to the 24mm wide-angle. As for sharpness, the lens center offers superb sharpness, whereas the edges suffer from blur which needs improvement.

Samsung S860 Review at Buy-n-Shoot

December 9, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Buy-n-Shoot has published a review of the Samsung S860.

For a compact camera within this highly affordable price range, the S860 packs a powerful little punch. High resolution images are created using what Samsung call a ‘true-colour filtered’ 8.1 mega pixel CCD (charge-coupled device), which allows users to print their images any size up to that of a standard poster without loss of quality.
