Sigma 10mm and 4.5mm Lenses Announced
Sigma has announced a couple of new fisheye lenses – the fast 10mm f/2.8 and the crazy-wide 4.5mm that stands alone with no real competition in the crop-sensor category. A couple of noteworthy points – first, both are DC lenses, which means that they are only for cropped-sensor cameras like the Canon Rebel and 40D series (along with all of Nikons DSLRs). These will not work properly on the Canon 5D, 1D or 1Ds series cameras. [Read more…]
Sigma’s 18-200 Stabilized Lens Available in Nikon Mount
It took awhile, but the Sigma 18-200mm OS lens is now available in Nikon mount. If you recall, Sigma held up the release for the Nikon mount in order to add the HSM autofocus motor so that the lens would be fully compatible with the Nikon D40 and D40x. If you’re shopping for a nice superzoom lens and don’t want to fork over $750 for Nikon’s own AF-S 18-200mm, the Sigma lens comes in at a more reasonable $550.

Nikon D40 and D40x Compatible Sigma Lenses
The new Nikon D40 and D40x are the first Nikon bodies without a built in auto focus motor. This means that the any lens used with the D40 and D40x will need the auto focus motor built into the lens. These lenses are called AF-S lenses. Sigma has a large line of compatible AF-S type lenses.
The following Sigma lenses are fully compatible with the Nikon D40 and D40x:

You got a monopod for that?
Sigma’s 18-200 Stabilized Lens Finally Available
Ok, not just yet, but you can now pre-order it now through Amazon in Canon, Nikon and, of course Sigma mounts. This thing was announce at Photokina last fall. Finally, it looks like it will actually release (ship?) on May 10, 2007. Canon is the company that really needed this lens though. Nikon has the wonderful 18-200 VR already. I’ve even been contemplating picking up a D40 or D50 (I’m a Canon user) just so I could have the 18-200 VR to carry around on family vacations and outings. I’m looking forward to reading some reviews on this lens and I’ll be sure to pass along my thoughts if I end up picking one up. If it lives up to the hype, it looks like a real bargain in the $550 neighborhood.
