Following up a previous rumor, there is more noise of a pair of new tilt-shift Canon lenses due in early 2014. The current TS-E 45mm f/2.8 and TS-E 90mm F/2.8 are well-overdue replacement and should find similar updates as seen in the recent Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L and TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II lenses. We could see an announcement later in 2013, but rumors suggest that they won’t be available until 2014. [Read more…]

Canon has been feeling out certain users’ thoughts for replacements to the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lenses. One of the common complaints of the two lenses is the push-pull zoom design, which leads them to be regarded as “dust suckers.” Additionally, the lenses are rather slow at the long end of the zoom at f/5.6; however, that allows them to remain compact in spite of their long zoom range. Rumors of the Canon 7D Mark II continue to trickle out as the original 7D approaches its fourth birthday. Alongside a set of rumored specifications for the pro-level APS-C DSLR, it appears that a refreshed version of the Canon EF 100-400mm IS lens may also join its ranks on the eventual announcement date (currently rumored for the September/October time frame).
The current 100-400mm lens is available at the moment for $1459 with Canon’s existing rebates. Based on Canon’s recent pricing strategy, I would surmise that pricing for a new version of this lens would be north of $2500. Not cheap, but Canon doesn’t seem to be having much of a problem moving the new 24-70mm f/2.8L at over $2k per unit.
Below are the most recent 7D Mark II specs, which are purportedly based on a prototype of the camera that is in the wild. [Read more…]

Canon Rumors recently got word that a new EF 100-400 f/4-5.6L IS lens could be announced around Photokina 2012. The current 100-400mm model is getting a little long in tooth and is known as a dust sucker thanks to the push-pull zoom barrel.
The new model is rumored to carry an f/4-5.6 range – instead of the current f/4.5-5.6 aperture range. Additional rumors have included the possibility of a twist-zoom barrel instead of the current push-pull design.
