This isn’t really much of a review . . . just a quick note on how to improve your aging headphones.

I’ve had a couple of Sony MDR-7506 industry-standard headphones for over a decade now. One pair I use more regularly than the other, and they’re starting to show some wear and tear on the earpads. I was getting black flaky vinyl crap on my ears and shoulders and they are coming apart at the seams.

To help extend the life of these headphones for a few more years, I picked up a set of Garfield Headphone Softie Earpad Covers from B&H a couple of weeks ago. For $17, they made my decade-old go-to headphones like new again.

There are loads of options for replacement earpads on these headphones. I like the price and comfort of the Garfield Softies. They may even be better than new because my face/ears don’t sweat where the earpads make contact as I did with the original vinyl earpads. Maybe I should have gotten some of these covers sooner…?

Adding the earpad covers to the Sony MDR-7506s is done by simply sliding the covers over the existing earpads. It takes a few seconds and then you’ve got nice, comfortable headphones again.
