Olympus OM-D E-M1 Officially Unveiled
The Olympus OM-D E-M1 is finally official. The new flagship Micro Four Thirds camera from Olympus features a 16.3MP sensor, along with a fast dual phase-detect and contrast-detection AF system.
The OM-D E-M1 features built-in image stabilization, a 3-inch tilting LCD and a frame rate of 10fps. The E-M1 also features a rugged magnesium alloy body with weather-proofing for protection from the elements. [Read more…]

Sony NEX-5T Announced
Alongside the new A3000, Sony has released the NEX-5T as a successor to the popular NEX-5R. Although a mild upgrade to the NEX-5R, the NEX-5T features Near Field Communication for easier WiFi connectivity.
The Sony NEX-5T sports a 16.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor (same as the NEX-5R) and is available in a kit with the 16-50mm power zoom lens with Optical SteadyShot inside. The NEX-5T features the same Fast Hybrid AF system found in the NEX-5R, which combines phase-detection and contrast-detection AF for fast and accurate autofocusing. [Read more…]

Nikon is Disappointed With Its Mirrorless Camera Sales, While the Rest of Us are Disappointed with Nikon Mirrorless Cameras
In Nikon’s latest financial results, the company revealed that its Nikon 1 series mirrorless camera sales have been less than expected in the US and Europe.
Nikon Imaging president Yasuyuki Okamoto beats around the bush about why the Nikon 1 series isn’t catching on, stating “In Europe and the U.S. the ratio of mirrorless to SLRs hasn’t grown at all, unlike in Asia, where it’s quite popular with women because it’s light. We had higher expectations for other regions. But people who like cameras tend to just go for SLRs, even though they’re very heavy.” (emphasis added).
Or maybe, just maybe . . . people who like and know cameras want a mirrorless camera that offers competing image quality with a SLR. The Nikon 1 series of cameras does not. This is apparently obvious to everyone but Nikon Imaging’s president. [Read more…]
