Canon 7D Rumored by Image and Nature

September 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

UPDATE: The Canon 7D has been officially announced.  Read more on Photography Bay’s Canon 7D Reviews and Resources. Check availability at Amazon.com.

Image & Nature has a summary of their current issue on this page. The image of the magazine cover, along with the article summary mentions the Canon 7D. Interestingly, it looks like the magazine pits the Canon 7D against the Nikon D90.

Anyone that reads French and would care to elaborate on the contents, feel free to chime in at the comments below.

Note: One DPR commenter says that they read the magazine and it’s rumors only.

Stay tuned for more.

Live Blogs From Photoshop World

September 4, 2008 By Thursday Bram

There’s a whole list of bloggers posting updates from Photoshop World, providing pretty thorough coverage for those of us who aren’t there. John Paul Caponigro got the idea yesterday and managed to put it together in a hurry. He invited the ‘movers and shakers’ at Photoshop World to post the highlights of their day during each day of the convention, and so far, it’s going well.

So far, the list of participating bloggers includes the following:

  • Corey Barker
  • John Paul Caponigro
  • Dave Cross
  • Laurie Excell
  • Martin Evening
  • Scott Kelby
  • Deke McClelland
  • Joe McNally
  • John Nack
  • Moose Peterson
  • Jeff Schewe
  • Colin Smith
  • Ben Willmore
  • David Ziser

They keep trickling in, though, so it’s worth checking back to see who else has added their thoughts about the various talks going on.

First Sony A900 Ad Leaked – UPDATED – Now with REAL SPECS

September 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

UPDATED: The Sony A900 has been officially unveiled. See Photography Bay’s Sony A900 Announcement and Sony A900 Reviews and Resources for more info.

This is the first advertisement that I’ve seen for the Sony A900. It appears to be legit and coming from a Danish photography magazine. [via DPR]

It looks like there are bubbles in the ad featured with the A900, which are reminiscent of the Sony Foam City shoot in Miami earlier this year for images like.no.other. Perhaps Sony is extending the mileage of Foam City to the A900 as well.

[Update: Here’s Ad # 2 leaked:]

The text in the ad reads as follows:

The new a900 has arrived. A new height in the “a” revolution is now within reach. Engineered with the exclusive 24.6 Mega Pixel Full Frame Exmor CMOS sensor, an industry breakthrough from Sony, this powerhouse integrates only the best imaging technologies from the world’s leading image sensor manufacturer. A work of art for the truly discerning individual.

24.6 Mega Pixel Full Frame Exmor CMOS Sensor – Dual BIONZ Image Processing Engine – Intelligent Preview – 100% Viewfinder, 0.74x Magnification – 3.0”, 921K-out Hybrid LCD – 9-point Centre Dual-cross AF (with f2.8 sensor and wide-area 10-point assist) – 5 fps Continuous Shooting – SteadyShot INSIDE

[via xitek]

Also, Sony appears to have confirmed with some sources that there will be a new DSLR launched on September 10th. [via PC World] It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that will be the day for the A900.

Expect to see lots more A900 coverage as we approach Photokina 2008.

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D Companion

September 3, 2008 By Eric Reagan

O’Reilly has just announced the release of their Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D Companion.  It’s $24.99 and, as the title implies, covers the functionality of the Canon Rebel XSi.  O’Reilly is touting the “lessons” the book offers as an advantage to the typical user manual of do this, do that instructions on how a camera works.  It’s available for pre-order at Amazon.com for $16.49.

Press Release

Sebastopol, CA—Have you ever bought a new camera, only to be so overwhelmed by all the buttons, gizmos, and gadgets, that you don’t touch it for months? You wind up using your old point-and-shoot camera simply because you don’t know enough about your new camera to be comfortable with it. If you’ve ever been caught in this situation, don’t worry–with O’Reilly Media’s new Companion series, you’ll be wowing people with your new photos in no time.

The newest book in this new series, The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D Companion ($24.99) is not a typical camera guide. Rather than just showing you what all the buttons do, this unique book teaches you how to use various Digital Rebel features to make great photographs. Through easy-to-follow lessons, this book gives you a complete class on digital photography, tailored specifically for people who use this camera. [Read more…]

Nikon D700 Review at PhotographyBLOG

September 3, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Nikon D700.

Is it worth the asking price? Well that depends on your own would-be use and needs. For the amateur there are more affordable alternatives, but for the professional needing full frame capability it can be considered a steal.

For the latest Nikon D700 news and reviews, be sure to visit Photography Bay’s Nikon D700 Reviews and Resources.

Get Your Photos on the Cover of Lonely Planet

September 3, 2008 By Thursday Bram

The Lonely Planet travel guides have become the travel guide for the young and the hip. Now, Lonely Planet has teamed up with photo-sharing site Pikeo to find new cover images.

If you have a great photo of Paris, London, Barcelona or Istanbul sitting around, consider uploading it to Pikeo. The directions on how to do so are on the contest page. The winner won’t just get his or her image on the cover of a Lonely Planet book, though. The winner will also get a trip from Intrepid Travel — the choices are India, the Serengeti Trail, Morocco or Russia. I know I wouldn’t mind a chance to take photos on the Serengeti Trail.

Sony A900 Announcement on Sept. 9 [NOT Sept. 3]

September 2, 2008 By Eric Reagan

A tipster, who wishes to keep his identity confidential, passed along that he recently received word from Sony that the Sony A900 will be announced worldwide on September 9th. That’s next Tuesday folks.

While it may seem like we’re all over the place on announcement dates, I feel pretty good about this info, as opposed to yesterday’s rumor of a 9/3 announcement.  He emailed me directly with the info, which he says comes directly from Sony.  Additionally, he’s provided solid info in the past.  I will honor his request to remain confidential, but I thought you should know why I feel good about his info.

Expect to see lots more A900 coverage as we approach Photokina 2008.
