Samsung TL34HD, TL9, SL310W and SL201 Digital Cameras

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. – Samsung today unveiled its 2008 second-half digital camera line up with the launch of four new models – the TL34HD, TL9, SL310W and SL201. Joining the company’s growing array of advanced digital imaging solutions, these four new digital cameras bring new technologies to the industry and will be on retail shelves nationwide in time for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

TL34HD

Boasting an impressive resolution of 14.7 megapixels and renowned Schneider lens yielding a 28mm wide-angle focal length with 3.6x optical zoom, the TL34HD promises sharp, clear and detailed images with every shot. The most advanced point-and-shoot digital camera in Samsung’s history, the TL34HD builds upon the success of its predecessor, the NV24HD, with the ability to capture high-definition video at a resolution of 720P along with Dual Image Stabilization.

Featuring an all-metal build, the TL34HD is pocket-sized with dimensions of 3.68″ x 2.34″ x 0.80″. Available in all-black, or silver with a red accent adding to the camera’s elegance, the TL34HD takes camera design to a new level. 8 Photographers in 8 Weeks

If you’ll be in Washington D.C. anytime in the next eight weeks, make the effort to stop by the Randall Scott Gallery. Randall Scott is running a unique exhibition showcasing eight photographers. For two week periods over the next two weeks, the gallery will hang the work of two different photographers at any given time, as well as a preview of all eight photographers’ work.

Scott, the gallery owner, picked these artists “through many internet wanderings, prowling artist websites and chasing links that start in one country and somehow cris-cross global cyberspace and end up in a completely different place,” specifically looking for photographers “who managed to make the hair on the back of [his] neck stand up.”

Even the online preview is jarring, showcasing unusual talent. The photographers included in the exhibit are Kyoko Hamada and Tema Stauffer (until July 26), Jessica Dimmock and Peter Van Agtmael (July 26 to August 8), Alexandra Catiere and Shen Wei (August 9 to 22), and Allison Brady and Ryoko Suzuki (August 23 to September 5).

PhaseOne Announces P 65+

Phase One has announce a new camera system, the P 65+. The P 65+ is the first camera system to make use of the Sensor+ CCD technology Phase One has been working on in partnership with DALSA Semiconductor. Sensor+ technology offers a number of improvements:

  • Longer lifespan
  • Improved capture rates
  • Higher sensitivity
  • Scaleable pixel and file size

The P 65+ has the industry’s largest live capture area, as well as the highest resolution. The 65 in the name, after all, refers to the camera’s 65 megapixel sensor.

The P 65+ system is fully upgradeable and Phase One is working hard to market it as the best option for the professional photographer. They are expected to begin shipping before the end of the year, but Phase One is accepting advance hours now.

13 iPhone Photography Apps

Along with the introduction of the iPhone 3G, Apple released iPhone 2.0 software, which is available for the first gen iPhone and iPod Touch as well.  At launch, tons of new applications from third party developers were available for download.  Many of these new applications are free – most are under $10.  Below are 13 photography-related iPhone apps available at launch.  Several more are actually avaiable; however, the following apps seem to be the most worthwhile considerations for people interested in photography as opposed to simply doodling on images.

1. SmugShot – FREE – Share your images instantly on SmugMug with geo-tagging.  More Photography Bay coverage here.

2. NearPics – FREE – NearPics is a simple, fun app for the iPhone & iPod Touch that lets you easily see some photographs taken near to where you are right now.

3. Exposure – FREE – For thorough integration with Flickr, Exposure brings many of the features of Flickr to the iPhone for fast access without the need to open Safari.  You can pony up $10 to remove ads from Exposure.

4. SnapMyLife – FREE – A location-aware photo sharing application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, enabling users to easily see what’s going on around them right now.

5. Kyte Producer – FREE – Use your iPhone to share photos on Myspace, Facebook, or any website, blog or mobile phone. Instantly broadcast pictures as you take them, or create slideshows from your iPhone’s picture gallery.

6. SodaSnap Instant Postcards – FREE – Using SodaSnap you can create and share electronic postcards right from your iPhone. SodaSnap gives you the ability to snap a quick picture, or browse from your photo library and instantly send it to any email address along with a quick note. Using iPhone’s location services, SodaSnap tags your geo location to your postcards anywhere in the world.

7. AirMe – FREE – AirMe will upload your photos to Flickr and add some really cool smart tags. AirMe tags your photos with your city and country – and puts them on your Flickr map. AirMe can even include the current weather.

8. Big Canvas PhotoShare – FREE – PhotoShare is a social networking application that allows iPhone users to share photos with friends and family directly from their iPhone.

9. Clowdy Photo Blogger – FREE – Clowdy is a simple way to blog your photos directly from your iPhone. It lets you share your photos easily using the Camera or your Photo Library. Clowdy is location based, so you can see what photos people have taken around you. Just take a photo, click “Post”, and it’s published on your blog at cIowdy.com.

10. Phanfare – FREE – Phanfare automatically uploads photos from your iPhone to your Phanfare account in the background while you continue to snap away or otherwise use your iPhone.  You get 1GB of store in the free Phanfare account.

11. Comic Touch – $4.99 – Add various speech balloons and captions to your photos. Choose a fun special effect to warp and bend your family and friends, then email the results to them.

12. Jade – $4.99 – One of the few applications with editing capabilities. Pick up a picture, choose the intensity of the filter, compare the original and the enhanced version by tapping the screen and then save the result.

13. Photobucket for iPhone – $4.99 – Add photos to your free Photobucket account from your iPhone.

Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd Review at Digital Camera Review

Digital Camera Review has posted a review of the Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd.

As with the model it replaces, the S8100fd really does hit just about all of the right notes. Limitations of and problems with this camera show themselves to be minor as a rule: in terms of basic performance, the S8100fd is a solid package that’s capable of quite a lot.

Canon EOS Rebel XSi Review at DC Resource

DC Resource has posted a review of the Canon EOS Rebel XSi. The new Digital Rebel XSi kit comes with an stabilized 18-55mm lens. Canon’s entry-level DSLR now features a 3? rear LCD panel that’s capable of Live View framing and focusing.

Camera performance is top-notch. The Rebel XSi is ready to go as soon as you hit the power switch, though you may want to wait the two seconds for its dust reduction cycle to finish.

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review at DigiCam Review

DigiCam Review has posted a review of the Canon Powershot A590 IS.

Image quality is good – with excellent colour, with high levels of saturation, contrast and detail. Noise is higher than average compared to the competition, but is low up to ISO400 and detail is good.
