Adobe has updated its Creative Suite line of products from CS5 to CS5.5. With the introduction of CS5.5, Adobe is shifting from an 18-24 month product cycle upgrade. Instead, Adobe will now be release a major version update every 24 months and a mid-cycle upgrade every 12 months.

The CS5.5 mid-cycle upgrade is largely focused on development for the iPad and other tablet devices. Additional key upgrades can be found in the Production Premium video programs.
Photoshop CS5 does not appear to be getting the +.5 upgrade treatment; however, Adobe has announced a new SDK (software development kit) to be used in conjunction with Photoshop CS5 for developing media for tablet devices, which can actually control what’s going on in Photoshop. “Using the Touch SDK, Adobe has developed three initial Photoshop CS5 companion apps for Apple iPad: Adobe Color Lava for Photoshop, Adobe Eazel for Photoshop and Adobe Nav for Photoshop. The apps are designed to enable users to create custom color swatches, paint and drive popular Photoshop tools from tablet devices.” -Adobe. Today also sees Adobe debut an affordable and flexible subscription-based pricing plan, attractive to customers that want to get current and stay current on Creative Suite products, have project-based needs, or try the software for the first time.
