Alongside the new X-M1 announced yesterday, Fuji also unveiled its new XF27mm f/2.8 compact lens. The small lens is only 23mm long and weighs just 2.75oz.
It has 7 lens elements in 5 groups, including one aspherical element. Additionally, it has a 7 blade round diaphragm and offers a 41mm equivalent field of view compared to full frame cameras.
Notably, there is no aperture ring on the new lens, which is a result of Fuji’s attempt to keep the lens very compact. X-Series owners will need to update their cameras’ firmware in order to enable aperture control via the camera’s command dial.
The XF27mm f/2.8 has all the makings to be a perfect walkaround companion for the X-Pro1, X-E1 or X-M1 cameras. The new lens should be available in July 2013 at a retail price of $449.95. Check availability here at B&H Photo.

looks a bit expensive for a $700 camera. Not sure why either considering the Canon 40mm f/2.8 is around $150. Fuji needs a compact prime lens with this camera for under $200 for this to sell big.
