Any info on pricing? Wish that 24-105 was a constant aperture zoom – would have been a great seller and handy lens to have, especially if paired with a Sigma 18-35mm.

Well, there is a constant aperture 24-105, and with current pricing, is probably one of the best values in the lineup.
The real shame to me is dumbing the pancake down to EF-S as it could have possibly been the best selling Canon lens ever if made in an EF mount. EF-S cams could still have used it just the same, but would have opened it up to many who could really use a moderately speedy, low profile wide angle prime for travel, street, architecture, etc.
Canon continue to absolutely confuse the crap out of me, and while I still shoot a Canon ff camera, I haven’t purchased ANYTHING for my EOS system in over 3 years because there is nothing worth their asking price, or useful enough to justify to me. In that time, I’ve built up a competing mirrorless system that is already rivaling the 5D2 and L lenses in many situations for a fraction of the price. I just don’t understand why Canon continues to hamstring itself by trying to limit the usability. I’m willing to spend some money for the right product, it just needs to A) be competitive to comparable offerings, and B) compatible with what I have, or would actually buy in the future.

I totally agree. Canon is wasting time lately while Tamron and Sigma are offering really interesting optics for half a price. Don’t they see gaps in their lens’ line up? Why is that competitors seem to see them and fill them up while Canon just doubles its own lenses. Do we really need all those 24-70-105 zooms? Few years back we had two to chose from and it really seemed enough. I won’t understand why someone would pay more for 24-70/4 than for 24-105/4. Is the optical quality twice as good or can it also brew coffee or something?
