Not quite a Christmas Miracle, but it’s about as close as Canon users are going to get today…
Canon Inc.’s senior exec Maeda Masaya confirms again that Canon is working on a new high resolution camera that will maintain per pixel quality while increasing the resolution. He says this camera is coming soon.
We have previously heard loads and loads of rumors about a Canon DSLR with a high MP count around 50MP or so. This latest bit of info adds a lot more credence to what we’ve heard in recent months.
Masaya also references a new Canon EF lens line but refuses to comment further on what exactly that means. Could it be dedicated EF lenses for a mirrorless system or something very specialized akin to the TS-E lens line for the EF mount?
Here’s the relevant machine translated text from the interview:
I am working in the high pixel camera. There are two ways of roughly divided into high pixel and high sensitivity to user needs. Although Canon was not preceded the high sensitivity system and say either, I think the future is to be going to move (overlooking the high pixel) In order to meet such as graphics-based user, also in the direction in which to go up the number of pixels.
High pixel camera towards users who want high image of the resolution will not believe, you soon out. This is the camera, such as was up the number of pixels while maintaining the pixel quality. Interchangeable lens I will expand as a “group”. The …… now that I want to add a new one line to EF lens any more does not say, please do not ask any more (laughs).
Sounds exciting… Stay tuned.

Canon had better get their rear ends into gear! They continue to loose photographers to Nikon. My 5D-III and 1DS-III are not getting any younger!
