The unicorn of standard zooms is rumored to be in the pipeline for Canon shooters.
We’ve been begging for a 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens from Canon for years. Nikon just announced its own version for full frame Nikon shooters, which should start shipping in a couple weeks.
If rumors hold true though, it could be 1.5-2 years before we actually see such a lens released from Canon. There are rumored to be several prototypes in testing now with a new (and smaller) IS system.
The current EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens retails for $1899, so expect a version with IS to run a few hundred dollars more.
Stay tuned.

It’s ABOUT TIME!!
This is the only thing that would cause me to upgrade my 24-70mm f/2.8L (version 1).
Maybe I’m a lens snob, or maybe because I shoot in low light; but I’m not interested in the f/4 lenses.

All Canon has to do is upgrade its full frame body with IS capability so we can use our non-IS lenses without crunching more $$$$.
