Rumors of the Canon 5D Mark IV continue to trickle in. The latest word comes from Canon Rumors, which believes Canon will launch the 5D Mark IV in the August/September time frame ahead of Photokina (in late September).
There are really no reliable specs for the camera at this point. Previous rumors have suggested everything from 28MP to 4K video to CFast card slots. None of those specs are either confirmed or ruled out at this point.
NAB is just about 10 days away, so the rumor mill may pick up a bit over the next couple weeks leading up to whatever Canon’s news is for NAB.

Interested. But it may be my last Canon, especially if they don’t “catch up” to Sony.

I´m frustrated of Canon beeing so lazy, seeing Sony and the others running ahead of them. Canon have to update the 5D every second year!
If this pattern of updates continues I´m going to abandon Canon! After 40 years.

Ditto, getting itchy feet about Cannon and finding my wallet getting pulled towards Sony for obvious reasons!

NAB is for video so I doubt that Canon will announce 5D4 there. Photokina is more believable.

As has been the experience with a lot of “converts” to Sony lately, they aren’t thrilled with the performance and are finding the grass isn’t as green as they initially thought on the other side. Sony KILLS it on paper and specs, but real world performance is not completely up to par vs. the “Canon experience” so many love (to hate?).
That being said, if Canon does not step up their game soon, I’m not sure there will be a large market left who haven’t at least tested the waters on the other side.
Canon will show off some 8K tech at NAB this year, which is almost shocking considering they released groundbreaking 720P-capable cameras earlier this year…

I upgraded my Sony from the original A7 to the newest A7r2. The camera is great. BUT: the lenses are expensive, heavy, and limited. I travel a lot so I wanted a good zoom that does wide to telephoto. There’s only one such lens: the Sony 24-240mm. It’s terrible. Focusing was really difficult, even on stationery subjects with lots of contrast. On the other hand, my Canon 5D can take lots of lenses, and I haven’t had any focusing problem with my Tamron 28-300mm. And the Tamron was $200 cheaper.
Bottom line: if you have a fat wallet and use prime lenses, Sony works well. But otherwise, be veerrry careful before switching to Sony.

Yep, Canon realeases the 1dX2 just so when they make the 5dMk4 you think its got almost all the same features at almost half the price. That way you forget they trail on lens sharpness to sigma, sensor quality to sony, almost last in dynamic range, completely ignore mirrorless market and poison their brand by staying 2 generations behind jn technology, and they lead the market in sales. Oh and their sub-par glass is more expensive than sogma that stops them on testing. Ive sold half my canon gear this year and haven’t looked back. Ill be selling the rest unless the5d4 is an industry trail-blazer. Considering the 1dx2 wasn’t… I don’t have my hopes up. My prediction is like always “Too little too late”

Are you switching from Canon to Sony?

Canon 5D 4 …hope its worth the wait as I waiting to switch from my 5D II as i did not hop on to the 5D III. My expectations are high for feature set as even the cell phones camera features are so much ahead these days…..I do not mean gimmicky things that a DSLR folks really care for but
High dynamic range would be nice particularly if more res possible but sensor form factor a problem
USB3 Type C for both video, audio and control to other devices
Charging in camera as lugging another charger on travels a pain
CF to SD card would be nice ~ rumors have that it supports SD
Able to port and run PDF’s DOC on the screen as instructions/maul or articles
Copy control info from any pic to manual shoot mode automatically
Camera with password protection may be good
Multi-camera sync useful in many shoots plus could form a 3D ability
Wi-Fi for photo exchange between mobile devices or camera’s
List goes on
